WebPortishead Outdoor Pool. We are the envy of many, having the fabulous lido, Portishead Outdoor Pool, on our doorstep. On a sunny day we go as a family – sometimes an extended family with grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, keen to travel to us so they can take advantage of our local facility. It feels like we’re on a mini-holiday. WebPortis Head has a beach, but it’s not used for bathing due to high tidal ranges, poor water traffic and dangerously strong currents. The 33-mile Lido near Battery Point opened in 1962, and while it was a much-loved facility in its first few decades, it was threatened with closure in the early 2000s.
